Military service members who are licensed by the California Department of Insurance go through special procedures to retain their bail bonds license while serving the United States.
“Our service members are extremely important and we want to be able to support them in whatever way possible,” said Inessa Chavez, vice president of All American Bail Bonds in Santa Clarita. “The CDI offers service members the opportunity to waive renewal requirements.”
California Department of Insurance officials have procedures to insure the bail licensee that his or her license will remain while they are away serving in the military, according to the California Bail Education textbook.
Procedures are in place to make it so that service members do not need to renew their bail licenses serving in the military, according to the textbook. Military service members who take advantage of the opportunity have until the end of the year in which they were discharged to notify the CDI of their return.
“This helps out our military tremendously,” Chavez said. “If they worked at a bail bond agency, like All American Bail Bonds in Santa Clarita, they would not have to study for their license test while deployed.”
To be eligible for special military procedures, a licensee must notify the CDI by faxing their activation orders to (916) 327-6907 or mailing their orders to the California Department of Insurance, 320 Capitol Mall, Sacramento, CA 95814, according to the textbook. The envelope must be marked with “personal and confidential — Military Service.”
When a military service member is released, they must notify the CDI, according to the textbook. They should provide a copy of their military discharge papers to the same fax number or mailing address stated above.
If the military service member does not inform the CDI of their return from service and the license expires after they have discharged, their license will fail to renew, according to the textbook. The military service member will then have to submit a renewal application with a 50 percent penalty fee.
“It’s important to keep the CDI informed,” Chavez said, “ so bail bonds agencies like All American Bail Bonds can provide service members will jobs.”
