After an arrest, the arresting law enforcement agency will book the person at the jail under specific charge/s.
The person’s bail will usually then be determined according to the charge/s through the Los Angeles County Bail Schedule.
“The Los Angeles County Bail Schedule offers law enforcement officers guidelines on setting bail so arrestees don’t have to wait to see a judge,” said Inessa Chavez, vice president of All American Bail Bonds in Santa Clarita. “The schedule offers a detailed list of charges and the accompanying bail amounts that have already been set by judges.”
Not everyone will be eligible for bail, but those who are can have their bond posted by a bail agent after it has been set.

“Certain crimes, like murder with special circumstances, are not bailable,” Chavez said. “Bail may also be denied if the arrestee is determined to pose a danger to the public or be a significant flight risk.”
The person’s first court appearance, called an arraignment, is usually pushed back about a month after a defendant has been bailed out of jail to give them adequate time to consult with their lawyer and get their affairs in order.
If a person has been denied bail or decides not to post bail, they will stay incarcerated at the jail, and will have their arraignment before a judge much sooner.

“At that time, you can request to have your bail lowered,” Chavez said. “However, the judge may also choose to raise your bail amount during your arraignment.”
“How bail is set depends on a variety of factors,” Chavez added. “At All American Bail Bonds in Santa Clarita, our licensed bail agents have the knowledge and experience to answer all of your questions and walk you through the process, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”
