There are several types of jobs in the world of bail bonds.
A bail permittee, is someone who has been permitted to solicit, negotiate, issue and deliver bail bonds, according to the California Bail Education textbook.
Compared to a bail agents, this is different.
A bail agent is a person who is permitted to solicit, negotiate and effect understandings of bail on behalf of any surety insurer, according to the textbook.
“A similar type of training is required for a bail permittee as with a bail agents,” said Inessa Chavez, vice president of All American Bail Bonds in Santa Clarita. “You still have to put in hours of studying and classroom work.”
You must be at least 18 years old to work as a certified bail permittee at a bail agency such as All American Bail Bonds
“You must be a California resident,” Chavez said. “A minimum of 20 hours of approved prelicensing classroom study and 6 hours of annual continuing education are required.”
Bail permittee licensing is for individuals, not corporations. This is different compared to being licensed as a bail agent.
“As part of the education process, just like bail agents, you are trained in laws and regulations, rights of the accused and ethics,” Chavez said, who had to go through the training herself before she owned All American Bail Bonds in Santa Clarita.
There are also several other requirements to become a bail permittee.
Federal law states that if you have been convicted of a felony involving dishonesty or a failed trust from bail bonds or insurance business cannot be licensed as a bail permittee without a written consent from the Insurance Commissioner, according to the textbook.
